Decorating a Living Room in Hollywood Glamour Style

I'm going to try something new with this blog, and we'll see how it goes.  Since my profession is Interior Design, even though I want this space to talk about everything, I am going to start posting "mock style room boards"

My first Mock Board is of an Updated Hollywood Glamour Style Living Room.

All of these items were found on Wayfair.  It is a great home furnishing website, that has a variety of styles and price points.

If there is any particle style that you would like to see put together, please leave a comment.

I will try to continue posting various style mock boards.

Since design is subjective, I feel that nothing can be "wrong"
I envision "Hollywood Glamour" as a black and white color scheme, but love the pop of hot pink.  I love the "goopy" chairs and light fixture, and anything glitzy and shiny. But there certainly are other ways to portray "Hollywood Glamour" in a room, this just happens to be my take.

The items seen in this board are below:

Sofa - Hollywood Sofa by Mopshop
End Table - by House of Hampton  - I love this because it is an unexpected piece - it looks like twigs, but I feel that the black top grounds it a little.
Cocktail Table - Juliette Coffee Table by Nuevo
Black Chair - King Arm Chair by POLaRT
White Chairs - Side Chair by POLaRT
Mirrored Chest - Geometric 3-Drawer Mirrored Chest by Wayborn
Screen - Mirrored 3-Panel Room Divider by Firefly Home Collection
Lamp - Michelle 19" Table Lamp by Bassett Mirror
Ceiling Fixture - Empire Crystal Chandelier by Worldwide Lighting
Hot Pink Picture - Glamour Girl by Dominic Vari Graphic Art
Audrey Art - Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's by Buy Art For Less
Rug - Modern Black Area Rug by Persian Rugs

Pop Color Fall Fashion Trend 2016

It's that time of year again, yes Autumn, but also the time I tend to post the most. Noticing that I have not posted since the 2016 colors of the year... in March, I figured it was time to enlighten my very small, yet very lovely audience with my picks for one outstanding Fall Trend.  I will try to make this my Leaves-Turning-Resolution, to blog more, here's hoping I get the readers.

Let's see what we've got.... Since standard Autumn attire remains fairly predictable year after year, I'll touch on one trend I'm seeing everywhere.  Get warm with your colors, think WINE, yes, the drink who doesn't love a vineyard in the Autumn; but also the COLOR!

Below are some pictures from the latest fashion company emails I have received.

Let's dig in!
This photo is from Tuckernuck, one of my newly favorite clothing websites.  I cannot speak from experience on ordering from this site, however, they do a wonderful job putting outfits together, I love their looks!

These two pictures are from Stick Fix.  They have great How To's on the latest and greatest. While I have discontinued my monthly subscription, I do really enjoy reading their blogs and fashion advice.

PLAID, PLAID, PLAID - it's everywhere - every Fall... Get into it!
Wine colored shoes, and the wine color in the plaid shirt and even in the plaid pants - Love it

This picture is from another on of my newly founded clothing websites, I'm obsessing over.  I became aware of this chic company because of my sister.  & Other Stories is located in Stockholm, so while they are very on point, they do have a distinct European look, that is not for everyone.
They're in for the WINE color for Fall - love all 3 of these looks!

Two more photos from & Other Stories.
Wine colored knee high boots (yes, they are still in this year - also include Over-The-Knee, very chic, and the ever-loving Bootie). *heart* the wine colored dress and bag.
The bag is great for the neutral wardrobe that needs the Autumn Pop of Color.

Happy Wine-ing this Fall!

Spring 2016 Color Trend

For Your Home and Your Wardrobe

While it is not breaking news that Pantone released two colors of the year for 2016 - believe me, I understand it is now late March, I am a little late (understatement). However, I will show you how to easily incorporate them into your home and your closet.

The 2016 Pantone colors of the year are Rose Quartz and Serenity.  Just simply saying them out loud sounds calming. Rose Quartz is a pretty pale pink, while Serenity is a light blue, almost bordering on lavender. Together the essence of Spring, so hopefully this blog finds you at the right time (first day of Spring)

While decorating for you home it is easy to incorporate these color throughout without breaking the bank. Use them in decorative pillows, a throw on the sofa, accessories and even flowers from the garden.  If you already have a neutral palette in your home, these will freshen things up for the season. No need to spend tons of on new furnishings.

Below are some pictures that I found, courtesy of Pinterest, that depict different ways to incorporate these on-trend colors into your home.

While this picture has more of the saturated colors, not the exact shades of the 2016 Pantone colors.  It is such a great contrast.  Loving the dresser, chandelier and especially the wall paper!
Notice how the bedding is white with pops of colors in the accents pillows.

This photo is the perfect description of using the colors of the year as pops with your existing furniture.  Notice the beautiful, subtle pillows on the sofa, and the use of color in the art. Granted the wall is a soft baby blue, but it would work with any neutral wall color as well.

Same pops of color in this photo. No need to change the wall color unless you where intending to before hand. The grey sofa works well with both colors. And using them in a blanket, some pillows and even the table cloth in the background showcase the trend well.

Love this picture! Showcasing just one of the colors here, which works so well.  This is the essence of chic, simply, classic. The neutral furniture, and dark grey pillows, and grey walls is just screaming style, while the subtle Rose Quartz leaves your eyes with delight.  Notice the pink books and flowers on the cocktail table, and the floor to ceiling pink side panels in the background. Just perfect. Also, make note of the metal finish - Brass is Back!

Who doesn't love a pretty table setting, and with Easter right around the corner this is perfection. Incorporating both colors onto your table with the China and flowers.  Using a white table or simple white cloth lets the decor shine though.

Onto the wardrobe part of incorporating the Pantone colors. Below are some easy ways to integrate these pretty pastels in with your current pieces, for a fresh, fun, Spring pop. All photos courtesy of Pinterest.

Easy ways to get your Pantone fill through bags, jewelry, tops, pants, and even as simple as non-commital nail polish.

Love this pretty, long, pink jacket. Perfect for those crisp weekend mornings. So effortless with a white tee and jeans. The light colored denim, being hot right not, adds the Serenity color to the outfit.

The polished look of this ensemble timeless and simple. Such a great large cable-knit, Rose Quartz sweater paired with the perfect Serenity colored jacket, and just jeans, to make for a casual feel.

All I have to say about these are: LOVE!

Good Luck migrating the beautiful colors-of-the-year into your home and wardrobe.
Happy Pantoning!

Kale Chips?!?!

My sabbatical is over, it's been a long time since my last post, but hopefully this newest one will leave you wanting to try Kale Chips.  We're not talking ground breaking, earth shattering topics here... but if you like good treats, keep reading.

First, let me preface this post by saying that I am not a health nut.  I like good food.  However, I am aware of what I put into my body.  I don't like wasting time or calories on food that does not satisfy me, or taste great.

That being said, I stumbled upon Rhythm Superfood Kale Chips in Honey Mustard.  I normally wouldn't have picked them up but I am trying to be carb-conscious (to help keep PPD at bay - maybe a later post on that) So I grabbed a bag while at a local convenient store.  I have to say, I was skeptical about the tastes and don't know if I have ever had kale chips before this experience.

It was AMAZING! I highly recommend trying some!  I am not sure if it's just this brand, or even just this flavor that I love so much - I hope to try different varieties soon, at least, at this point I am open to tasting various kinds.  And have even made some myself.

The Rhythm Superfood variety, are light as air, crunchy; while also melts in your mouth, and full of a robust mustard flavor. They leave you wanting to eat more, much much more.

After tasting this wonderful kale treat, I decided to try out my baking skills on this "superfood".

I found a recipe that was easy enough (see below) - and decided that while my kale chips are tasty in a different way, they are certainly not Rhyme Superfoods Kale Chips.

Wash Kale and dry thoroughly. Remove the stems, and lay a single layer on parchment paper on cookie sheet (I used a baking stone and no paper).  Drizzle olive oil and sea salt on top.  I also added garlic (my family loves garlic -  but everyone has to eat it)

Good luck and Enjoy Eating your Kale!
